That was the subject of an e-mail I just recieved. Although, it turns out it's not a scary and extreme as it sounds. A big group planning to go on the trek I booked ended up cancelling. Because of this, if I still want to go on the trek, I will have to pay for my own food and accomodations. The trek was already $580 for 8 days, and this will up the price considerably. However, I was having second thoughts about my trek anyway and perhaps I will take this as a sign.
Since arriving in Nepal, I've gotten asked to book a trek with about 15 other groups, all for less money. I've also learned more about the trek I booked and more about the other possibilities. If I'm going trekking in Nepal, maybe it makes sense to do one of the more common treks. I kind of liked the idea that so few people do this one, but I think there may be a reason for that... Plus, a bunch of other volunteers expressed an interest in trekking, so perhaps the group of us could hire a guide and do a shorter trek. This would save me oodles of money. If I were to do it this way, perhaps I could spend $150 on a mountain flight which takes you right near Everest. It's supposed to be spectacular, but I didn't feel like I could afford it. Plus, doing a different trek would give me more flexiblity. I could start whenever I want and end whenever I want.
So right now, I'm leaning toward asking for my deposit back and doing something else. I'm actually pretty excited about the possibility! That's about all that's going on since I last posted...

Making the switch (and taking the Everest flight) sounds like a great move to me, Jennifer. I'm sure that you will make a wise choice.
Whatever you decide will be perfect! Who knows when or if you will be back to Nepal, so take advantage of the experience, as I know you are.
i wish you all the best for your journey in Nepal. wherever you will go you won't feel bad, that i can hope. all the best!
